welcome
It fascinates me that something so cold, dirty, and plain, such as a length of steel, can be heated and manipulated and turned into something so alive and so beautiful.
I love being a part of this medium, and I’m always striving to achieve something new, pushing myself to learn and trying new ideas with every project. Each one is unique, a special piece of art that compliments your home.
We appreciate you taking the time to browse our website and learn more about us. Take a look around, contact us with your ideas, set up a meeting to discuss designs and let us create something special for your home.

About Christopher
Christopher’s career as an artist began in January of 2000 when he opened C.N.Y. Glass Studio. Creating various blown glass pieces, his work focused on the art of Contemporary Marbles. These small collectibles were one of a kind, and contained intricate surface and internal designs making each one unique.
In 2009, he decided to go back to college at MVCC in Utica, NY, to become a certified welder. The welding program introduced him to various welding techniques along with his first chance to hammer a piece of hot iron on an anvil. It was here he realized that his dream of being a full-time artist could continue. Once his certifications were earned and the course was completed, he built a small forge, gathered up some tools, and started blacksmithing.
“Although I thought I would always be drawn to the flame and the manipulation of molten glass, hammering and shaping a length of hot steel is something that is so much more challenging to me. I am fortunate to possess the skill to make something so beautiful, that is functional, and will be a cherished heirloom that withstands the test of time.” - Chris Rice
“His creativity, collaboration, and attention to detail result in high quality, unique and eye-catching pieces of functional art.” - Barbara & Sam ChamberlainTestimonials
"We are only days away now from occupying our new home in the Adirondack Park Reserve and we continue to marvel and appreciate the great work you have completed on our Kitchen Island Chandelier and the wrought iron bannister and finials on the staircase. It all ties together so beautifully. Your masterful iron work makes us feel at one with the natural world that surrounds us.
Thank you for your hard work and creativity, designing and fabricating these core elements of our retreat on Chase's Lake. It is all very special indeed."Don & Liz Don Musnicki
"We first met Chris in 2011 at the Rustic Furniture Fair hosted by the Adirondack Museum and immediately began exploring & exchanging ideas.
Since then his craftsmanship has become an integral part of the camp we've recently built.
His creativity, collaboration & attention to detail result in high quality, unique and eye catching pieces of functional art.
From window well grates and stair railing brackets to entryway lighting, kitchen lighting and a 72" diameter porch 'chandelier', Chris's work enhances the functionality and ambiance of our home.
He is also a pleasure to work with and we've enjoyed our collaborations. "Barb & Sam Chamberlain

"Every once in a while you meet an artisan who listens to your ideas for a project, creates a work of art that exceeds your expectations ; and then, does the work on time and at budget.
Chris Rice did exactly that for my home at Cold Springs on the Fulton Chain of Lakes in the Central Adirondacks.
Thanks Chris and Frank. "Joe and Ann Guiffre
"I met Chris Rice after being drawn to one of his pieces, a stunning steel bird sculpture, on display at a local art festival. When I saw the quality and creativity of Chris’ unique art work and also his functional designs, I instantly knew that I was going to become a client.
The work that I have commissioned with Chris is diverse. It ranges from impressionistic to realism in creative and functional art forms, all crafted in steel.
I own Chris Rice originals in the purely creative art forms of life-size humanoids, nesting eagles, a treed owl and dragonfly, heron and abstract sculptures. All of the Rice pieces are stand-outs and they co-mingle beautifully with the work of other artists decorating my property.
In addition, Chris has also created functional art for my home and business with hand-wrought railings, custom lighting, a large vanity wall mirror and coat racks.
Chris has collaborated with me on my art collection and he has provided great assistance with my art installations. I owe the artistic display of many pieces in my collection to Chris’ fine handiwork.
Chris is an expert welder and has also provided me with those services. He has assisted with general construction projects such as an entrance sign infrastructure and outdoor lighting fixture installations. There seems to be nothing that Chris can handle!
Whatever takes a strong, knowledgeable and creative hand, Chris Rice will not disappoint.
What I appreciated most about working with Chris was his willingness to allow me to be a part of his creative process and his superb pursuit of client satisfaction.
Simply stated, Chris helped me make my house a home that reflects my individual expression of artful form and function that creates a unique and lasting impression. "Anita A. Vitullo
